Elizabeth's award ceremony
We had a really enjoyable day today. We went with Grandma Weyer and Judy to Iowa City to see Elizabeth get a Second Year Rhodes Dunlap Award (scholarship). This was doubly special since she received this as a first year, also. The program included many other students and awards and lasted about two hours. Each student was honored with a short bio. Of course, we thought Elizabeth's was special but the most diverse I heard had to be the girl majoring in astromony/physics and minoring in theater arts who might go on to seminary and is also the runner up collegiate champion in Tae Kwon Do. Ok....
Afterwards, we went to the reception for yummy treats and Elizabeth got to talk to the director of the Honors program for a few minutes. Then it was on to Red Lobster, a treat from Aunt Judy.
The trip up and back was pleasant, after we drove out of the rain. It's so green here now; the fields are fresh and clean. There many barns along HWY 218 which have 12 foot square painted signs with quilt block themes. It's the project of a committee which has three stretches of roadway decorated in this manner and it's fun to pick out the signs. Judy and Grandma plan to put a 4 foot square sign on the north side of the garage!
Today started with some quick garden work before a pouring rain. Thankfully we drove out of it on the way to Iowa City and the rest of the day was very cloudy and humid but warm and dry. We seem to be in for some heavy rain overnight and tomorrow. STILL haven't been able to plant peas.
In my next bit of spare time I'll add new photos to the slide show. I have beautiful photos of the grandsons!
