Elizabeth's award ceremony

We had a really enjoyable day today. We went with Grandma Weyer and Judy to Iowa City to see Elizabeth get a Second Year Rhodes Dunlap Award (scholarship). This was doubly special since she received this as a first year, also. The program included many other students and awards and lasted about two hours. Each student was honored with a short bio. Of course, we thought Elizabeth's was special but the most diverse I heard had to be the girl majoring in astromony/physics and minoring in theater arts who might go on to seminary and is also the runner up collegiate champion in Tae Kwon Do. Ok....
Afterwards, we went to the reception for yummy treats and Elizabeth got to talk to the director of the Honors program for a few minutes. Then it was on to Red Lobster, a treat from Aunt Judy.
The trip up and back was pleasant, after we drove out of the rain. It's so green here now; the fields are fresh and clean. There many barns along HWY 218 which have 12 foot square painted signs with quilt block themes. It's the project of a committee which has three stretches of roadway decorated in this manner and it's fun to pick out the signs. Judy and Grandma plan to put a 4 foot square sign on the north side of the garage!
Today started with some quick garden work before a pouring rain. Thankfully we drove out of it on the way to Iowa City and the rest of the day was very cloudy and humid but warm and dry. We seem to be in for some heavy rain overnight and tomorrow. STILL haven't been able to plant peas.
In my next bit of spare time I'll add new photos to the slide show. I have beautiful photos of the grandsons!

April Showers

April showers bring May flowers. At least I hope so because we’re certainly getting rain today and that will delay veggie planting awhile!! This morning I stood in the door admiring the daffodils and the magnolias in the gentle rain. Right now it’s a downpour!
I have lots of lily bulbs up, my daffodils and hyacinths are in bloom or bud, my Royal Star magnolia is blooming and I just bought a Jane magnolia in hopes that it’s the same as the beautiful small trees that are seen so often here and not a shrub/tree. John trimmed the lowest branches from the firs beside the house and that was a dramatic change. He keeps tilling up more garden space. Hmm…wonder if Stephen and Carolyn have noticed! Maybe we’re going to become potato farmers after all!
We saw State of Play last night and it was very entertaining.

Easter photos

Easter weekend was very nice! It was great to finally have Elizabeth home for a few nights! She and I went to church with Grandma Weyer, as did Judy, Stephen and Carolyn, John W., Cindi, and Nathan. It was a nice service and we saw some familiar faces.
We had a smaller group for Easter dinner. But, we had great food, some sunshine, and the Easter bunny did leave some baskets.
We had an entertaining visit with Nathan. We learned all about digging up dinosaurs! He was very busy this weekend beside the garage with a wire brush. Evidently a pterodactyl was buried there! :-)

Happy Easter!!!!!!!!!

I'm sitting in Elizabeth's dorm room playing on her high speed computer. :-) I'm waiting for her to finish babysitting so we can get her home for Easter weekend.
I took her to the chiropractor this morning, with driving skills equal to the best Stephanie Plum novel. (Shh!) Not funny in real life, however.
Our shopping trip to Stuff, Etc. yielded some exciting finds, including a molded plastic child's art table and chair, similar to Little Tykes. I'm not sure of the brand but it's large and cute. It has lots of storage areas and will be fun to outfit with crayons, paints, etc., and Gabe, JT, Nathan, and, later, Elijah will love it!! I got it for $10.99 :-)
Let's see, last weekend was Elizabeth's induction into the Omicron Kappa Delta honor society but I had been up to Iowa City the day before to take her to the pulmonologist (new asthma meds) and chiropractor, so on Saturday I went with John C, Judy, and John's Mom to Davenport to pick up some Weyer family memorabilia from the widower of a cousin of John's Dad. Ken was really interesting to talk to so I'm glad I went.
Here's a photo of Elizabeth and her ODK certificate and two photos of Great-Grandmas with Great-Grandsons.
HAPPY EASTER!!!!!!!!!!!
